Blood Pressure – HBP & LBP

Blood Pressure – High Blood Pressure (HBP) and Low Blood Pressure (LBP)

Hypertension or High Blood Pressure (HBP) is caused by stress and strains as well as by our wrong eating habits and lifestyle.  It is a disease like any other disease and needs to be managed both by medication and quality of food & our lifestyle.  Other causes associated with hypertension are obesity, worries and unhygienic habits of living.

 

During the early period of this disease, it is not detected like diabetes but later the symptoms like Headache, Nose bleeding, blurred vision start occurring.  Most patient discover about hypertension when they undergo a routine clinical tests, so it is important to check your BP regularly.

 

All newly detected patients of High blood pressure should also get their kidney function tested for any malfunction. The main tests are,  blood tests for Urea & Serum Creatinine and Urine test for protein / albumin.

 

Effect of hypertension on Kidney – High blood pressure can cause damage to your Kidney or vice versa a malfunctioning kidney can cause hypertension. The symptoms of kidney diseases are swollen feet & high blood pressure. And at advanced state of kidney disease, the symptoms are like fatigue, poor appetite, difficulty in breathing and weight loss etc.

 

Effective control of blood pressure at 120 / 80 is very important to prevent and slow down progression of kidney disease.

 

Diet for High Blood Pressure, HBP (Hypertension) patients -

BANANA – It is good source of potassium, which helps in reducing the hypertension.

 

APPLES :- An apple has a diuretic affect and production of more urine brings down the high blood pressure. Diabetic people should take it in limited quantity.

 

BEET ROOT :- High in calcium, should be taken raw, as salad or in soup form.

 

BROWN RICE – Calcium and other minerals present in it keep the balance of nervous system and HBP.

 

GARLIC – It is claimed to reduce hypertension and reduce cholesterol, but High blood pressure patients should take it carefully and check it for few days, as it is very hot and produces heat in head & blood, especially when taken raw. It should be preferably taken Roasted and NOT raw.  It should also be avoided during summer or hot seasons; otherwise you may have a stinging sensation on your body, the moment you stay in Sun or at any hot and humid place.  It is suitable for people living in cold countries or hilly areas, but not for hot and humid places. It can be taken safely during winter seasons, but only Roasted. Do not take raw. It has been found to be very effective for any type of infections or fevers. But practically we have not found much useful for high blood pressure. On the contrary if consumed in excess it produces heaviness & heat in head.

 

LEMONS – It is a good source of Vitamin C and makes the arteries strong. Patients with stomach ulcer or acidity problem should take it with Soda or take less quantity with honey in a glass of water.

 

Precautions for high blood pressure Patients – Do not take chilly or hot spices in any form. Avoid Cashew nut and take all other dry fruits and nuts in small quantity only.

 

Yoga & Pranayam for high blood pressure -  Pranayam or yogic breathing exercises, specially Anulom Vilom, or regular deep breathing habit  and Shavasana (Total  relaxation pose) are some of the effective ways to bring your HBP to normal.

 

Daily brisk walking for at least 45 minutes a day, morning or evening will definitely bring your HBP to normal within 3 days only, with guarantee.

 


LOW BLOOD PRESSURE LBP (HYPOTENSION)

 

The main causes of low blood pressure are Lack of blood (Anaemia), Depression and excessive blood discharge during menses in case of women.

 

Recommended foods & supplements for Low Blood Pressure, LBP (Hypotension) patients

 

1. Take Vitamin B Complex with Iron tablets or capsules.

 

2. Eat Spinach & Apples in plenty as they contain Iron necessary for the forming of new blood.

 

3.  Avoid negative & depressive thinking.
